Shenzhen got its first metro lines in 2004, when Lines 1 and 4 opened together, and Line 1 has run straight to the Luohu border crossing since its first day. In the twenty years since, the network has grown at a remarkable pace. Line 4 reached the Futian Checkpoint in 2007 and has been run by Hong Kong's MTR since 2010, giving travelers to Hong Kong a second line that ends right at the border, and before the 2011 Universiade the network grew from 64 km to 177 km in about two weeks.
