Dongguan got its first rail line in 2016, when Line 2 opened. It runs south from Dongguan railway station to Humen railway station, a stop on the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong high-speed line where travelers can board direct trains to Hong Kong West Kowloon. Nearly a decade passed before the network gained a second line. Line 1, opened in November 2025, is about 57 km long with a design speed of 120 km/h, and it connects with the region's intercity railways, making trips between Dongguan, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen much easier.
