Hangzhou got its first metro line in 2012, when Line 1 opened. It is run by a joint venture with Hong Kong's MTR, and its English announcements even use the same voice heard on the MTR. In the years since, the network has spread across both banks of the Qiantang River and into a neighboring city. Line 19, opened in 2022, runs at up to 120 km/h and links Hangzhou West station, Hangzhou East station, and Xiaoshan International Airport, and since 2021 Shaoxing Metro Line 1 has met the Hangzhou network at Guniangqiao in Xiaoshan, so riders can travel between the two cities by metro.
