Montreal got its first metro lines in October 1966, when the Green and Orange lines opened together, and the Yellow Line followed the next year for Expo 67. Following Paris, the metro runs on rubber tires. Each station was designed by a different architect, while Square-Victoria-OACI has the only authentic Guimard entrance in use outside Paris. In the sixty years since, the network has kept growing. In 2007 the Orange Line tunneled under the river to Laval, and from 2023 the fully automated REM began opening in stages, first to Brossard on the South Shore and then to Deux-Montagnes in 2025.
