Taipei
Taipei got its first metro line in 1996, when the Muzha Line (now part of the Wenhu Line) opened. In the thirty years since, the network has grown from a single elevated line into a system that reaches across Taipei, New Taipei, and Taoyuan. The Airport MRT, opened in 2017, connected Taoyuan International Airport to the city's rail network, and the Circular Line, opened in 2020, runs entirely through New Taipei. Its 14 stations link Xindian, Zhonghe, Banqiao, and Xinzhuang, so trips between them no longer have to detour through central Taipei.
