Taichung
Taichung got its first metro line in April 2021, when the Taichung MRT Green Line opened, the fifth metro system in Taiwan. The fully elevated, driverless line runs from Beitun Main Station to Taichung HSR station, giving high-speed rail passengers another direct way into the city. Rail in the city had already changed before that. In 2016 the TRA's Taichung Station moved onto a new elevated line, and the red-brick station building from 1917 was preserved as a national historic site. In 2025 construction began on the Blue Line from the Port of Taichung into the city, with about nine years of work expected.
