Oklahoma City got its modern rail system in December 2018, when the OKC Streetcar opened. It runs as two routes, the Downtown Loop and the Bricktown Loop, which share part of their track, covering about 4.8 miles with 22 stops. For intercity travel, Amtrak's Heartland Flyer has made a daily round trip between Oklahoma City and Fort Worth, Texas, since June 1999, a run of about 206 miles. In 2026 the streetcar tried out free fares, ridership jumped, and in August the city made the streetcar permanently free.
