Atlanta got its rapid transit in June 1979, when the first section of MARTA's East Line opened. In the forty-plus years since, MARTA has grown into a four-line system built on north-south and east-west trunks, and in 2009 its lines were renamed Red, Gold, Blue, and Green. Airport station opened in 1988 right next to the domestic terminal, giving riders a single train from downtown to their flight, and at the end of 2014 the Atlanta Streetcar began running a downtown loop linking Centennial Olympic Park and the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park.
