Albuquerque
Albuquerque got its modern rail line in July 2006, when the New Mexico Rail Runner Express began commuter service from Bernalillo to downtown Albuquerque. The city had streetcars much earlier, with horsecars from 1880 and electric cars from 1904, until service ended in the late 1920s. The Rail Runner kept growing after it opened. It reached Los Lunas and Belen to the south within months, and in December 2008 it was extended north to Santa Fe, the state capital, so a single commuter line now links New Mexico's two most important cities.
