Las Vegas got its first monorail in 1995, a hotel shuttle between the MGM Grand and Bally's. In July 2004 the public Las Vegas Monorail opened, running from Sahara to the MGM Grand, about 3.9 miles with 7 stations. During the pandemic in 2020 the monorail shut down and its operator filed for bankruptcy, and that December the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority bought it for $24 million. In 2025 the LVCVA committed funding to keep it running until at least 2035.
