Bratislava
Bratislava got its first urban rail line in 1895, when its first electric tram line opened. The city never had horse or steam trams, so its streetcars were electric from the start. Bratislava has no metro. Construction of one began in 1988 but stopped a year later, and the project was formally cancelled in 2002 in favor of rapid trams. The tram network has kept growing since. In 2016 trams crossed the Danube again on the rebuilt Old Bridge into Petrzalka, the large housing district on the south bank, and in 2025 the line was extended deeper into Petrzalka.
