Dubai got its first metro line at 9:09:09 pm on September 9, 2009, when the Red Line was officially opened. Every train has run fully driverless since the first day. In the years since, the network has kept growing. The Green Line opened in 2011, and the Dubai Tram followed in 2014, running without overhead wires and connecting with the Red Line at DMCC and Dubai Marina stations. In 2020 Route 2020, a Red Line branch to the Expo site, was completed, and its stations opened in stages through 2021 for the postponed Expo.
