Bangkok
Bangkok got its first urban rail line in December 1999, when the BTS Skytrain opened its Sukhumvit and Silom lines together. The city's first subway, the MRT Blue Line, followed in 2004, and in the two decades since, the network has grown into a mix of elevated rail, subway, airport link, commuter rail, and monorail. In 2020 the Blue Line completed its loop, tunneling under the Chao Phraya River and stopping near Chinatown and the Grand Palace, and in 2023 and 2024 the Yellow and Pink monorail lines opened, extending the network into residential districts in the city's east and north.
