Sao Paulo got its first metro line in September 1974, when Line 1, the Blue Line, began service between Jabaquara and Vila Mariana, the first metro line in Brazil. In the fifty years since, the network has kept growing. Line 4, the Yellow Line, opened in 2010 as a fully automated, privately operated line, and in 2014 Line 15, the Silver Line, partly opened as the first high-capacity monorail in Latin America. The Bilhete Unico card, introduced in 2006, lets riders use a single card across the metro, commuter rail, and buses.
